Giveaway: 10 x Archipelis Designer [Windows]

Ever wonder how 3D images are created? Must it be with really sophisticated software? Not something that you would even dare to attempt in your wildest dreams? Well, think again because today, we’re giving away 10 free copies of Archipelis Designer, an easy-to-use 3D model designer.

First, a walkthrough.

Archipelis Designer takes a slightly different approach to 3D model creation. It allows you to simply draw the shape of the model with your mouse or input device and adjust the contours accordingly. As a result, anyone can start creating 3D models with Archipelis Designer.

Archepelis Designer is available on both Mac and Windows for €38. There’s a slightly less powerful version called Archipelis 3D, and that’s €19.

As mentioned before, Archipelis Designer is really simple to use. The main user interface may look slightly archaic but let’s not focus on that.

To start drawing, right-click on any area in the drawing area and outline a shape. When you let go, the application will automatically render the shape for you. If you notice above the shape (in the screenshot below), there’s a small toolbar where you can easily change the angle of view as well as the viewing modes: wire frame, smooth shaded, textured, cartoon, environment mapped, vertex and anaglyphic.

Once a 3D shape has been rendered, you can easily manipulate it using the heads-up command circle which surrounds the shape. You may also use the panels on the left area to make adjustments.

After reading the user manual, even I was able to begin designing on my first attempt. I found that the application was pretty intuitive but it was easy to get lost in the 3D space if you’re not used to it.

Archipelis Designer is a very useful 3D drawing application if you know how to use it. Some of the designs that have been rendered by users are simply awesome. If you’re curious about how it works, download the trial and have a go at it.
