Giveaway: 25 x Paintslate [Windows]

Paintslate is a new drawing application developed by Bendigo Design (creator of Pixo and Pixo SE). Designed with simplicity in mind, Paintslate is a fun, yet capable drawing app with a wide range of tools and support for tablet PCs.

This week, we’ll be giving away 25 free copies of Paintslate worth $250 in total! First, a walkthrough.

Paintslate is only available for Windows. We’ll be basing the review on the latest available trial, downloaded from Bendigo Design. The trial is fully operational for the first 14 days.

Paintslate utilises the same licensing method as Pixo SE and this means that if you’re selected as a winner, you’ll have to copy your unique code and email it to registration@bendigodesign.net to receive your unlock code. As the name implies, the unique code is unique to your computer’s hardware.

Paintslate’s user interface is very much similar to Pixo and Pixo SE, so if you’ve used either applications in the past, you’ll known your way around Paintslate.

Starting from the upper right hand corner and moving clockwise, you’ll find the main menu, the brush size adjustment toggle, the opacity adjustment toggle, undo/redo buttons and the zoom button.

At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find the colour palate. The range of colours provided might seem a little limited but you also have the option of selecting any colour using the eyedropper tool or from the colour spectrum. The selected colour will be shown in a box on the left.

Finally, you’ll find the usual array of drawing tools on the left panel, along with some mirroring options and magnet drawing options on the top left. Mirror variations is a very interesting concept where you can easily duplicate (in real time) what’s being drawn on either side. There are 3 mirroring variations: left and right, top and bottom, and semi-quarters (there the image is divided into 8 parts from the centre).

Paintslate comes pre-installed with an impressive range of quality images that you can use with the stamp tool. It also provides 2 additional stamping options: to draw with the stamp tool and a selected image, and to rotate any image before stamping it.

Additionally, Paintslate has several categories of background images which you’ll be able to use as drawing templates. Alternatively, you can also load any image of your own and use it as the background image.

All in all, Paintslate is a very easy to use drawing tool that comes packed with lots of images and tools that help you to get started right away. Download the trial and have a go at it.
