How To Use Photo Slideshows To Make Your Android Even Cooler

android2

Ever since I got my new HTC Evo I’ve been in love with the Android. There’s almost nothing I dislike about it. I’ve even begun writing about it (here). One of the features of my particular phone is a decent camera. I’ve been taking photos and videos like a mad man for the past few weeks. I love all the sharing options I have on my Android including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Posterous and even WordPress. Cool phone, cool pics and cool social media options – who could complain?

One thing I’ve been wanting to do is show a slide show on my phone. I know I know, I could use the Gallery app that came with it and just hit menu-slideshow. That’s all cool and stuff but I wanted something different. Something more. Well, two somethings more. One, I wanted to have a widget that could show a slide show. Second, I thought it would be cool to have a live background that shuffles through photos. Cool idea, huh? Well, with the greatness of the Android (free) Market, both dreams came true for me.

Without further ado, here are the two free Android apps that make my Android phone that much cooler just by using slide shows.

1. Turtle Photoframe

(AppBrain link)

If you want a photo frame widget that actually rotates images for you, give Turtle Photoframe a try. After installation, all there is to do is choose the size, enter the amount of seconds for each photo, pick a folder, and choose the style of frame. See the steps and result in the screenshots below:

Now I can take a peek at slides of my cat Peanut easily any time I want (see more pics of Peanut on my Posterous blog).

2. WallMe Lite

(AppBrain link)

If you have the ability to have live wallpaper, now you can actually have a slideshow going on in the background of your homescreen(s) using WallMe (or WallMe Lite). Remember, if you want that kind of action going on, you may see a difference in your phone’s performance or battery life. It just comes with the territory. I’m running it currently and it hasn’t effected me much.

All you really need to do with this one is install it, choose it as your wallpaper (it’s filed with the other live wallpapers), and mess with the settings. Check out the screenshots below:

There are several places you can have WallMe grab pictures from: your device (or card), Flickr, or Facebook (if it is getting photos from the internet, remember about data and battery consumption). You can also change other settings such as transitions and how the photos fill the screen (pictures display).

There you have it. Both free answers to my quest. How about you? What free apps have you found that use use photo slide shows to make your Android cool?
